Discover the Power of LEGO Therapy at Brick Club with Emma: Fostering Confidence and Friendship in Children

Updated: Sep 19, 2024

Do you ever wonder how play can be the key to unlocking your child's potential, nurturing their social skills, and boosting their confidence? Brick Club brings children together in a welcoming environment, where LEGO becomes more than just a toy—it becomes a tool for building friendships, sparking conversations, and fostering a sense of achievement.

Personal Story: How Brick Club Changed My Child's Life

As a parent, I have witnessed first-hand the transformation that occurs when children engage in play at Brick Club. My child, who used to (and can still) struggle with patience and expressing frustration, was my motivation to discover a way to support him in recognizing and coping with these emotional states in a practical way. My research and interests in championing children's wellbeing led me to extend my studies in child psychology and additionally train as a Brick Club Facilitator with Brick-by-Brick and Play Included (Play Included | Play Included). By creating a safe haven for children who are surrounded by peers who share their love for LEGO, my child, alongside many others, has been able to practice ways of communication, collaboration, and problem-solve in a fun and interactive way. The reactive 'Hulk rage' is passing and being replaced with more amenable ways of expressing his frustration!

The Power of Play: Building Confidence and Social Skills

LEGO therapy, the cornerstone of Brick Club, is more than just building with bricks. It's a structured form of play that encourages children to work together, take turns, and communicate effectively. Through these activities, children not only develop their fine motor skills but also enhance their emotional wellbeing and mental health. Practicing language, finding alternative ways of describing and explaining themselves to their build-buddies and seeing builds through to the finished model to play with are all skills that enhance and enable resilience, patience, linguistic flexibility as well as the confidence to check back understanding. Realising you don't have enough information to continue can give way to being distracted or withdrawing from an activity - having the confidence to ask for more details is a big step for children at any age. Brick Club actively encourages dialogue, supports ways to ask questions and challenges each person to assess to themselves how to communicate better.

At Brick Club, children of primary school age are given the opportunity to unleash their creativity, express themselves, and learn valuable coping mechanisms. Whether they are constructing elaborate models or participating in group challenges, every moment spent at Brick Club is a step towards building confidence and strengthening social skills.

Creating a Community of Friendship and Support

One of the most remarkable aspects of Brick Club is how it creates a sense of belonging and camaraderie among children. Its a privilege to sense the eagerness and kindness in the room see how they come together in a relaxed environment where differences are celebrated, and individual strengths are recognized. This nurturing atmosphere allows children to form genuine connections, forge lasting friendships, and support each other on their journey of growth and development.
